NEW LONDON — An ordinance was introduced in New London to increase water and sewer charges Monday.

After the regular village council meeting, the minimum water bill for the first 2,000 gallons used by village residents would go from $20.50 to $21.12. For those outside New London, prices would go from $25.63 to $26.40. Other charges would rise accordingly, council said.

Council said village employees, though not including the police, will receive raises amounting to between 2 and 5 percent.

New London Mayor John Martin had some good news for council Monday. He said the village finally is getting some help to repair the sidewalks on the West and North Main Street railroad crossings.

Council also heard:

• CSX Railroad is going to donate $2,500 plus 16 hours of flagger time, PUCO is donating $5,000 for each crossing and the village’s share will be $1,500. RWW Masonry will do the work, which will start in the spring.

• New London Village administrator Shawn Pickworth reported construction has begun on the water treatment plant project.

• The Thanksgiving Day trash pickup will be Wednesday. Also, the village compost facility is for village residents only.

* Council passed an emergency ordinance to enter into contract for the lease/purchase of a VacAll vacuum truck with a semi-annual payment of $15,982.
