NEW LONDON — Village council learned Monday funds for the water-treatment plant improvement project should be released in July, with work to begin shortly after.

Council approved the contract for the work with Kirk Bros. Co. for $2,293,000.

Also, council approved a request to lease a new garbage truck. It will replace a 1996 model that isn’t considered worth fixing.

New London Mayor John Martin reported the railroad has refused to repair sidewalks at the West and North Main crossings. Options include legal action or perhaps applying for a grant.

Fire Chief John Chapin said thanked the community for the support given to the family whose house was completely destroyed by fire on Memorial Day.

Council discussed the possibility of annexing several properties on the south side of Ohio 162 from the village limit to Euclid Road.
