Kirk Bros. Co. gets New London bid for water treatment plant improvement

NEW LONDON — New London Village Administrator Shawn Pickworth informed council Monday the bidder chosen for the water treatment plant improvement project is Kirk Bros. Co. from Alvada, Ohio for $2,293,000.

Pickworth said the state has approved the critical infrastructure grant of $500,000 for the improvement of New London Avenue and West Washburn Street. The grant requires a $50,000 match.

Council approved three matters: getting quotes for a new garbage truck to replace the older of the two trucks; the submission of an application for a NatureWorks grant for $10,000 for cement work at the Reservoir Park; and a request from Sons of the American Legion to sell beer at Rockin’ the Rez July 14.

Police Chief Mike Marko said questions have arisen from residents about seeing two police cars in the village at the same time. He said his department has had to handle some dangerous situations and when more than one officer is on duty, for whatever reason, the second or third officer usually is a reserve officer, which costs the village nothing.
