WILLARD — Shannon Chaffins was officially named Willard’s police chief Monday night, with Adam Strong serving as his assistant chief.

Willard city council approved the appointment of the four-month interim chief unanimously at city manager Jim Ludban’s recommendation.

“In the last four months they have demonstrated that leadership by example produces positive results,” Ludban said. “Though they each are engaged in steep learning curves surrounding their interim assignments, they have energetically led the department to encouraging results that make our community a safer and more positive place to call home.”

Ludban also said the pair make a great team, complimenting each other’s personalities.

“(Strong) was a sergeant and they make a great team,” he said. “One’s very outgoing and one’s very quite and it’s just making a huge difference. They just work great together.”

In other business, council:

• Discussed the water treatment of the reservoir. After 38,000 pounds of algaecide, Ludban said its algal cell counts “are diminshing and conditions are improving.”

• Accepted a $5,000 donation from the Willard history book sale to benefit the clock tower project and $140.74 from Sexton’s Landscaping to benefit the Dostaer Plaza construction in town.
