Norwalk girls top Port Clinton and St. Paul

NORWALK — The Norwalk girls golf team topped visiting Port Clinton and St. Paul on Wednesday at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Norwalk.

The Truckers shot a 200, which bested the Flyers (216) and Redskins (227).

Chloe Thomas led Norwalk with a 48. She was followed by Hannah Dumbeck (49), Noelle Jackson (49) and Mylea Barber (54).

Norwalk (200)defeated Lake division foe Port Clinton (227)and St Paul (216) today at Eagle Creek.

St. Paul’s Sara Scavuzzo shot a 48, followed by Tori Pocos (56), Brooke Bleile (55) and Amanda Rospert (57).

Norwalk is 5-7 in the Lake division and hosts Clyde on Monday.

 

TENNIS

Norwalk 4, Lexington 1

LEXINGTON — The Truckers advanced to the semifinal round of the Division II Northwest Region of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association tournament with Wednesday’s 4-1 win over host Lexington.

Both Gabby Horowitz and Alexa Moore won in sweeps for the Truckers (14-2) at second and third singles (6-0, 6-0).

Norwalk’s lone loss was at first singles, as Megan Berry fell to Lex standout Gracie Pfeiffer (6-0, 6-0).

At first doubles, it was Emma Trost and Lauren Metcalf winning their match by scores of 6-0 and 7-5. The No. 2 team of Mara Berry and Erin Bleile won 6-0, 6-1.

Norwalk wraps up its week with a pair of SBC Lake matches against Tiffin Columbian. The Truckers host the Tornadoes today and visit Tiffin on Saturday in a rescheduled match.

Norwalk will host Lima Shawnee at home at a date to be determined in the OTCA tournament, with the winner advancing to the region finals.

 

BOYS GOLF

Norwalk 151, Sandusky 256

SANDUSKY — The Truckers cruised to an SBC Lake Division win over the host Blue Streaks at Mills Creek in Sandusky.

Norwalk improved to 8-1 in the Lake with Wednesday’s win.

Kyle Smith was low for Norwalk with a 36. He was followed by Caleb Sommers (38) and Gavin Koelsch (38). Carter Kluding and Zach Crane both added 39s, and Justin Sommers had a 41.

Norwalk has its Jim Denos Memorial Invitational at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Eagle Creek.

 

New London 190, W. Reserve 191

NEW LONDON — By the slimmest of margins, the Wildcats remained unbeaten after they topped the Roughriders by a single stroke at Millstone Hills.

For New London (12-0, 9-0), Carter Eibel led the team with a 42 and Sean Armold had a 46. Also for the ‘Cats, Marcus Mayhorn had a 50, followed by Sean Andolsek (52), Kotiana Barber (53) and Dax Amburgy (55).

Western was led by match medalist Matt Jarrett with a 41. Camden Hawkins shot a 47, followed by John Skrada (49), Luke Rowlinson (54), Breck Kinney (63) and Jacob Sergent (63).

New London will travel to Brookside to take on Crestview next Monday in its final match of the regular season season.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Norwalk 3, Perkins 2

PERKINS TWP. — The Truckers picked up a huge road win in the SBC Lake Division against the host Pirates to remain unbeaten in league play.

Nyah Daniels scored two goals for the Truckers and Gwen Olcott added one. Makaila White had 10 saves in goal.

Norwalk (7-1, 4-0) has won 20 consecutive SBC Lake matches and is the two-time defending league champions, finishing ahead of the Pirates in both seasons.

The Truckers host Ontario at 12 p.m. on Saturday in a non-league match at the Norwalk Soccer Complex.

 

Oak Harbor 4, Edison 0

MILAN — The Chargers lost Wednesday’s SBC Bay Division home matchup to the powerhouse Rockets.

Edison is at Huron on Monday.

BOYS SOCCER

Norwalk 4, Perkins 0

PERKINS TWP. — The Truckers improved to 6-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Lake Division with a road win over the host Pirates.

Will Gelhausen scored three times for another hat trick to pace the Norwalk scoring, while Austin Obermeyer added the fourth goal. Assists came from Regan Zieber and Tyler Clark, while Clark recorded eight saves in net and earned his fifth shutout of the season.

Norwalk is back in Lake Division action on Monday at the Norwalk Soccer Complex when it entertains visiting Sandusky.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Norwalk junior high teams win

VERMILION — The Norwalk seventh-grade volleyball team improved to 9-0 with Wednesday’s win over Vermilion in two games, 25-15, 25-8.

For Norwalk, Eva Ott had 14 service points, followed by Lucy Schlotterer with nine points. Sammi Chappell led the team with three kills, and Schlotterer had four assists setting and Mac Wineman added two digs.

In the eighth-grade match, Norwalk improved to 8-1 with a win over the Sailors (25-11, 25-12).

Ava Tyler, Adelina Roblero and Jill Nash were 100 percent servers, while Abby Catlett had five kills. Roblero and Catlett led the team on defense.

Norwalk is at Ashland on Saturday and at Bellevue on Monday.
