Record field highlights HOF ceremonies

NORWALK — It was an induction ceremony that had its share of memories and laughs.

Longtime Elk's Club member Al Shankman and Eagle Creek member John Kaiser had their pictures hung on the Heritage Park monument aside the No. 12 tee on Sunday at the Eagle Creek Golf Course on New State Rd.

Charlie Brown, a longtime playing partner of John Kaiser, was the presenter for his friend. Ron Shankman, the son of inductee Al Shankman, proudly spoke in behalf of his father.

The 10th playing of the 12-hole shamble tournament followed with the largest field ever. The 80 players, teeing it up despite the 90-plus degree temperature, forced a change in format.

Because of the size of the field — and in an effort to get the players out of the heat — the event was changed to two-best balls net of the foursome.

The foursome of Arvy Montvilas, Gary Mackay, Jeff Lang and Steve Old won the event, carding an actual 68 and a net figure of 28-under par.

Every hole had an individual skill prize. Those winners were:

— No. 1 Closest to the pin in two shots: Gary Mackay

— No. 2 Closest to the 150-yard post: Jeff Todd

— No. 3 Longest putt made: Ken Smith

— No. 4 Closest to the pin in two shots: Gary Mackay

— No. 5 Closest to the pin in three shots: Gary Wilkins

— No. 6 Proximity with tee ball: Aaron Shankman

— No. 7 Longest made putt: Walt Koleno

— No. 8 Proximity with tee ball: Tom Bleile

— No. 9 Closest to 150-yard post: Mike Schneider

— No. 10 Closest to the pin in two shots: Craig Meyer

— No. 11 Longest made putt: Gary Wilkins

— No. 12 Proximity with tee ball: Aaron Wheeler
