Woman killed in head-on collision with truck

BALLVILLE TOWNSHIP — One woman was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash after a truck struck them head-on Friday.

Gavin Murray, 25, of Findlay, was driving his grey 2018 Ford F-150 at about 4:40 p.m. Friday, northeast bound on Ohio 12, about three-tenths of a mile west of Ohio 53, in Ballville Township.

According to the the Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, he was rounding a curve in the roadway, when the truck traveled left of the centerline and struck a grey 2001 Pontiac Sunfire head on. The Pontiac came to rest off of the south side of Ohio 12.

The car’s driver, Juanita M. Rodriguez, 76, of Fremont, was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the Lucas County Morgue, the report said.

Rodriguez’s front seat passenger Delores M. Wampler, 75, of Fremont, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo.

Murray was not injured in the crash.

All three subjects involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts, and impairment is not believed to be a factor, according to patrol reports. The crash is still under investigation, and no charges had been filed at the time of the report.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department, Ballville Township Fire and EMS, LifeFlight, Ohio Department of Transportation, the Sandusky County Coroner’s Office and Madison Motors Towing Service.
