New London looking for volunteer firefighters

NEW LONDON — The New London Fire Department needs volunteer fire fighters, and Fire Chief John Chapin asked council Monday to be allowed to advertise for the openings.

Chapin said the department now has 24 excellent volunteers, but he would like to have 30. Anyone who is interested should contact the village hall for applications.

Administrator Shawn Pickworth presented council with two possible water rate increase scenarios. Council scheduled a workshop to discuss the matter for 6 p.m., Monday, March 14 prior to the regular meeting at 7.

Pickworth said plans have been submitted to the Ohio EPA for a permit-to-install approval to begin the water plant improvement project. Also, an application for a zero-interest loan has also been sent in.

In other council business:

• Residents will receive surveys about lead and copper, as well as the new utility software. Contact village hall with questions.

• Although the weather has been drawing people out to enjoy the parks, restrooms will not be opened until around April 1.

• A cement pad has been installed for the new cabin at the Reservoir Park, and other camp sites are being developed.

• Weather sirens will be tested at noon, Wednesday, March 1.
