Norwalk Catholic School (NCS) and St. Paul High school administrators want to make sure that their students are future ready, even in the summer months.

In June they attended the Future Ready Schools, Preparing Students for Success workshop sponsored by North Point Educational Services and the Alliance for Education. More than 30 schools were in attendance.

Ron Forrest, information technology coordinator, enjoyed the opportunity.

“It is good to get away from the day to day tasks and have time to think and plan about technology because it is important for the success of our students,” he said.

The goal of the conference was to provide administrators with an opportunity to consider the big picture in terms of technology and allow them to discuss, with their peers, what the future of education could look like.

“The workshop was an insightful day. It gave us time to plan for the issues that our school should be addressing to prepare our students for the future,” NCS Elementary Principal Melissa Englert said.

Administrators were asked to make the “Future Ready District Pledge,” which includes the following goals:

• Foster a culture of collaborative leadership; provide rigorous academic content for all students to build life skills

• Empower personalized professional learning opportunities

• Help schools and families transition to anytime, anywhere learning

• Rethink the use of space and time

• Implement thoughtful data and privacy policies

• Focus on long-term sustainability

• Share and mentor for continuous improvement.

NCS President Dennis Doughty was impressed with the day.

“This conference is really going to help us going forward. After today we now have resources that we have not had before. It will allow us to focus our plans toward the forward-thinking goals laid out at this conference,” he said.

The discussions at the conference enabled administrators to learn, think and discuss the ever-changing world of education and technology. Lessons learned from the conference will enable NCS and St. Paul to meet the challenges that students must face in to be “Future Ready” by the time they graduate.
