NL board honors long-time teacher

NEW LONDON — The New London Local Schools Board of Education honored retiring elementary teacher Mark Bucher at Monday’s meeting with a cake, plaque and lifetime pass to school events.

He has been with the district for 30 years.

Second-grade language arts teacher Patty Fuller and bus driver/kitchen worker Patty Dvorak received the annual Golden Apple awards for their service to the school.

The Super Cat students of the month are Olivia Pelton, Mark Miller and Daltin Schneiter.

In other business the board:

• Heard about the accomplishments of the Teen Leadership Corp.

• Accepted resignations from high school principal Erin Holzhauer and pre-K teacher Emily Tobbin.

• Approved certificated contract renewals.

• Eliminated one kitchen position.

• Adopted a list of policy revisions and new policies.

• Ratified a three-year contract with the teachers.

• Tabled a decision to approve the public library’s request to put a 1-mill levy on the November ballot.

• Approved the following coaching positions: Phil Albaugh, boys’ track; Zach Parr, boys’ golf; Sarah Thomas, volleyball; Keith Landis, cross country; Tom Howell, boys’ basketball; Eric Mitchell, girls’ basketball; Misty Ebinger, girls’ track; Joe Thomas, softball.
