Firelands Electric awards scholarships

Firelands Electric Cooperative has announced the winners of this year’s scholarship contest.

This contest is offered annually to children of cooperative members who are graduating high school seniors and reside in a home served by the cooperative. Area winners include:

New London High School student Carrie Smith is a second-place winner of $1,250. Smith is the daughter of Clark and Donna Smith, of New London. She is planning to attend Ashland University with a major in digital media production.

Ashlyn Tommas, who attends Monroeville High School, is a fourth-place winner of $750. Tommas is the daughter of Michael and Joan Tommas, of Willard. She plans to attend Lourdes University next fall, with a major in nursing.

Weston Eibel from New London High School is also a fourth-place winner of $750. Eibel is the son of James and Kimberly Eibel, of New London. He plans to major in physics at the University of Toledo in the fall.

Willard High School’s Amos (Levi) Hill is a fifth-place winner of $500. Hill is the son of Amos Hill, of Willard. He plans to study pre-pharmacy at the University of Toledo.
