Norwalk school board member Steve Linder on Tuesday apologized for something that happened in January.

Linder, during the public participation of Tuesday’s school board meeting, said he wanted to apologize for the “kinda horrible way” the board handled last month’s public participation.

Board president Lisa Wick cut the session short when people addressed allegations of abuse by head basketball coach Steve Gray. She prohibited speakers from naming specific people or use an audio recording.

Linder said he spoke to an attorney, who reportedly informed him that names, audio, video and “hand gestures” are allowed during public participation as long as they fit within the allotted three-minute time restriction.

“It is our duty to allow each person who comes forward (to speak),” added Linder, whose comments were met with silence.
