Norwalk heroin dealer sentenced to 4 years in prison

A Norwalk drug dealer was convicted and then sentenced to prison this week in Huron County Common Pleas Court.

Justin A. Willard, 32, formerly of 28 Bank St., pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of aiding and abetting corrupting another with drugs and two charges of trafficking in heroin. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed one count each of aggravated possession of drugs and tampering with evidence.

After the guilty plea, Huron County Common Pleas Judge Jim Conway sentenced Willard to four years in prison.

The Norwalk Police Department arrested the defendant April 25 and Willard has been in the Huron County Jail since then. According to court records, the heroin and tampering offenses happened that same day.

In another case, Travis Gross, 25, of Mansfield, pleaded guilty Monday to driving under the influence of alcohol or drug abuse. The fourth-degree felony carries a specification that the vehicle in question could be forfeited to the state. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed a similar charge of DUI.

Gross was sentenced Monday to 60 days in jail with an additional 90 days to be served at times established by the probation department. As further conditions of his probation, he was fined $1,350 and the judge suspended his driver’s license for five years. 

In other hearings:

• Shaun A. Meagrow, 35, most recently of 4690 Medusa Road, pleaded guilty Tuesday to four counts of tampering with coin machines in exchange for the dismissal of five charges of tampering with coin machines. He will be sentenced Jan. 18.

On Dec. 5, Meagrow was transferred to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office on a holder. He is charged with tampering with coin machines, possession of criminal tools and petty theft. 

• Becky S. Stewart, 38, most recently of 27 Water St., pleaded guilty Monday to possession of drugs. She remains out on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 17.

• Patrick A. Taft Jr., 59, most recently of 1503 Crescent Road, Greenwich, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of sexual battery, both third-degree felonies. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed three similar charges and five counts of rape. Taft, who earlier posted a $100,000 bond, will be sentenced Jan. 18. 

The Huron County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. According to Taft’s indictment, the sex offenses happened between Aug. 11, 2015 through Feb. 7 of this year involving the same victim, who was a minor. 

• Tammy L. Ward, 43, most recently of 3764 E. U.S. 224, Lot 21, Greenwich, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of tampering with records. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed one count each of tampering with records and forgery. Ward, who earlier posted a $5,000 bond, will be sentenced Jan. 17.
