Norwalk Public Library hosting events in March

Visit the Norwalk Public Library, at 46 W. Main Street, in March to participate in plenty of fun and free programs.

Here’s a list of what’s planned to take place:

• Read Across America is planned for March 2. Children of all ages are invited to celebrate reading with Dr. Seuss-themed activities and crafts all day long.

• Children 5 and younger can attend story time at 11 a.m. Thursdays, March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

• Music and Movement is a great time to shake out the sillies. Kids aged 5 and younger are invited to join the library at 10:30 a.m. every other Friday —March 3 and 17.

• On the first Tuesday of every month, the library will bust out the bricks. Lego Day starts at 4:30 p.m. March 7. All ages are welcome to build and compete. This month’s theme is outer space.

• March 14 is Pi(e) Day. Come celebrate the mathematical constant of Pi (3.14) with surprises all day.

• Game Day will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14. Students grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to challenge a librarian to a showdown in some of our many board games.

• G.E.M.S (Girls Engineering and Making Stuff) kicks off Women's History Month with a splash! On March 15, the library will be exploring chemistry through watercolor paint and oil. Make a masterpiece while learning how beautiful science can be. Girls aged 8 to 12 are invited. Registration is required. 

G.E.M.S continues at 1 p.m. March 18 with an exploration of mass and motion. The group will be creating wind-powered cars.

G.E.M.S ends Women’s History Month with Angry Birds Live Girls 8-12 are invited to join the group at 4:30 p.m. March 29 to catapult birds into a life-size wall of pigs. We’ll be learning about physics by calculating angles and force at quantum speed.

• Teen Times will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 16 and 30. Students grades sixth through 12th can enjoy snacks and crafts, play video games or just hang out. Every Teen Time has something new! No sign up is required.

• Make & Take Tuesday will be at 4:30 p.m. March 21 where students grades kindergarten to fifth grade will decorate clay pots and grow flowers to celebrate spring. Sign up at the children's desk.

• The monthly adult craft will take place at 6 p.m. March 22. Sign up to create and embellish pots to celebrate that winter is over.

• March 23 is Puppy Day. The library will be making dog treats from peanut butter and oats all day. Stop in and take some home. There may be some four-legged friends at the library from 4 to 6 p.m.

• The Prize Fighter Book Club meets at 1 p.m. Monday, March 27 (note the new time.). This month’s novel, Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen, is rife with mystery, magic and food. Pick up your copy at the adult desk.

Regular library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
