The Press Box is returning to its old spot on Mill Street. John Malcolm opened the restaurant in the early- to mid-1980s with the intentions of making it Norwalk’s place to meet and greet for sports fans, which it was for years.
The restaurant went through a couple of different names and owners over the years and has been sitting empty.
But by the looks of all the work going on Wednesday afternoon, it won’t be long before The Press Box is open again for business.
“We kind of just want to bring a good dinner, eat-in restaurant to Norwalk. I know they don’t have a steak house in town, so we wanted to push that,” said Linda Fields, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Joe, of Castalia.
Gary Gilbert and John Manuella own the building and lease it to the Fields.
“Very excited,” Fields said. “My mom used to own a restaraunt-bar when I was little.”
The Press Box will be open seven days a week, opening at 11 a.m. each day.
“Sports bar for lunch,” Fields said.
The menu will include burgers, sandwiches and wings. Two burgers return to the menu — The Press Box and the Trucker burgers.
For supper, the menu will include steak, lobster, seafood, chicken and pasta. There will be specials every day of the week, including a home-cooked dish on Thursdays.
The 21 Mill St. location formerly housed the infamous restaurant The Mill Street Bistro, which appeared on Food Network’s “Kitchen Nightmares” in 2014. The building most currently housed the 1847 Tavern and Grill. It closed in September 2017 after just three months of business.
