MILAN TOWNSHIP — J.H. Weilnau Farms is up to a 50-mile challenge.

“The 50-mile challenge is everything we deliver is from a 50-mile radius,” said Holly Weilnau, who runs the family farm with her husband Joe.

The 130-acre Milan Township farm is on the property that originally belonged to Joe Weilnau’s great-great grandfather.

“The biggest push is we want to deliver family-oriented food to your front door,” Holly Weilnau said. “We will be able to deliver in the winter now.”

The farm has 10 vendors and delivers to residents in Norwalk, Monroeville, Milan, Wakeman, Perkins Township and Huron. There is a $5 delivery fee. To sign up online, go to the “home delivery” tab on www.jhweilnaufarms.com.

“There is a specific day for each area,” Weilnau said.

On Wednesdays, the farm delivers to Huron, Milan and Perkins Township. Friday is designated for Norwalk, Monroeville and Wakeman.

Each vendor, most of whom are family-generated or owned, covers a specific niche. The farm offers fruits, vegetables, coffee, honey, maple syrup and some desserts.

“We continue to add vendors. Each week I generally have a meeting to increase what is being delivered straight to you,” Weilnau said. “I’ve just met with someone in Oberlin to make breads.”

The Oberlin Food Hub recently became a partner with J.H. Weilnau Farms. Weilnau said the hub collects foods from several different sources and distributes it to groceries stores, schools and restaurants that reach as far as Cleveland.

Sandusky City Schools recently signed a contract with the farm and the Strecker Road property will host a field trip for students Sept. 28.

“We are now Sandusky schools’ farm,” Weilnau said. “We have been delivering to them for a couple weeks.”
