Willard girls finish state runners-up

COLUMBUS — Kourtney Craft rolled a 524 series (194-161-169), leading three Willard girls in the top 42 at Friday’s Division II OHSAA girls bowling state championships as the Crimson Flashes — making their first state appearance — finished as state runners-up to Coldwater at the tournament held at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Fourth after team qualifying, the Flashes advanced to the state final by way of a 3-2 quarterfinal win over Minerva and a 3-1 win in the semifinals over top-seeded Springfield Northwestern.

Willard fell to Coldwater, 3-0 (227-167-187 to 168-159-148) in the state final match as the Cavaliers earned their fourth OHSAA girls bowling state championship, and third since 2013. Coldwater finished second in the team qualifying round and advanced to the state final following a 3-0 win in the quarterfinals over Plain City Jonathan Alder and a 3-0 victory over Norton in the semifinal round.

Craft was 33rd overall in the final individual standings, while Kathleen Schaaf was tied for 39th with a 518 series (171-167-180) and Hannah McClanahan was 42nd with a 517 series (190-152-175).
