CHAGRIN FALLS — The fifth annual Chagrin Falls Popcorn Ball Drop, a free family-friendly event, will be held Sunday at the Chagrin Falls Village Triangle.
The new version of the giant popcorn ball tops out at a record 100 pounds. This year it will be hoisted up the 50 foot flag pole at 10 a.m. Sunday, slowly dropping while counting down to the New Year slightly before midnight. There will be over 200 popcorn balls launched into the crowd via Rob Schwinds, the Popcorn Ball Bazookas at midnight (courtesy of The Chagrin Hardware Store).
Retired police chief Brocius will blow off the official village cannon, ringing in the New Year. First Federal of Lakewood has graciously purchased the ball with all proceeds benefitting Chagrin Township Hall renovations.
This year’s popcorn ball is 100 percent edible and will be served at First Federal Lakewood, Chagrin Falls branch, beginning Jan. 2. Ingredients include Ohio grown popcorn, butter, sugar, glucose, and water. It was created at Shaker Square Popcorn Shop Factory.
