Who will be crowned Miss Maple City 2016?

Six young women will compete for the title of Miss Maple City 2016 and four teens will vie for Miss Maple City’s Outstanding Teen 2016 on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The pageant, sponsored by the Maple City Ice Co., will be held at 7 p.m. at the Main Street School.

Co-directors are Dolly Ruffing and Wil Vickery, Jr.

There will be a silent auction with baskets from all of the contestants. All proceeds will go to the Miss Maple City Scholarship Program.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. This year, pageant officials will honor all veterans, who will be admitted free. Tickets are $10 and include a reception after the pageant.

Miss Maple City 2016 will receive a $700 scholarship, crown and sash, floral bouquet from Betschman’s Flowers on Main, a night’s lodging Saturday night at the Econolodge in Norwalk, breakfast at Berry’s Sunday morning, a photo session at Moll Photography on Sunday and the right to represent Norwalk at the Miss Ohio Scholarship Pageant at Mansfield in June. The state winner competes for the title of Miss America at Atlantic City in September.

Miss Maple City’s Outstanding Teen 2016 will receive a $100 schoalrship, crown and sash, floral bouquet from Betschman’s Flowers on Main, a night’s lodging Saturday night at the Econolodge in Norwalk, breakfast at Berry’s Sunday morning, a photo session at Moll Photography on Sunday and the right to represent Norwalk at the Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Pageant at Mansfield in June. The state winner competes for the title of Miss Outstanding Teen in Orlando, Fla.

Entertainment for the show will be provided by Miss Maple City 2015/Miss Ohio 2015 Sarah Hider, Miss Maple City Outstanding Teen 2015/Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen 2015 Emily Krejci, Class Act Dance Studio of Norwalk, Dave Hider of Wooster and Miss Maple City Lil Sisses.

Judges will be Miss Maple City 1992 Jennifer (Glyde) Kilbride of Perrysburg, Miss Maple City 2009 Ashleigh Lemon of Columbus, Doug King of Midland, Mich., Benji Cates of Findlay as well as Eric Ebinger and Dave Schild of Norwalk.

The judges chair is Jan Moll of Brunswick.

Auditors will be Tim Smudz of Wadsworth and Richard Russell of Bellevue.

Emcees for the show will be Miss Maple City 2004 Kim (Baker) Kanary, Miss Maple City/Miss Ohio 2015 Sarah Hider and Miss Maple City Outstanding Teen/Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen 2015 Emily Krejci.

During evening wear competition, each contestant is accompanied by a lil sis. Miss Maple City/Miss Ohio Sarah Hider will be accompanied by her lil sis, Iris McConnell, and Miss Maple City Outstanding Teen/Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Emily Krejci will be accompanied by her lil sis, Sativa McConnell. Both lil sisses are the daughters of Norma Zapata and Mike McConnell of Norwalk.

Contestants have a platform issue in which they strongly believe and work with. The winners will speak their platform issues about during their year of service as Miss Maple City and Miss Maple City Outstanding Teen.

The Miss contestants, bios, platform and their lil sis partners are as follows:

Gabby Bailey, 22, is the daughter of Wayne and Jennifer Geer of Dover. She attends the Ohio State University. Bailey will dance. Her platform is “Make It Right: Recognize, Respond and Recover from Family Dysfunction.” Her lil sis will be Annaliese Garcia, daughter of Jessica Leos and Brian Garcia of Norwalk.

Nicole Baringer, 23, is the daughter of Mark and Sue Baringer of Defiance. She is a graduate of Ball State University. Miss Baringer will sing. Her platform is “Charm: Caring Hearts and Role Models.” Her lil sis will be Avianna Brant, daughter of Antwon Colvin and Tammy Brant of Norwalk.

Taylor Carmer, 20, is the daughter of Todd and Anne Carmer of Newark. She attends Bowling Green State University. Carmer will perform a jazz dance. Her platform is “More to Life: Drugs and Alcohol Addiction Awareness.” Her lil sis will be Maizie Wilson, daughter of David and Stephanie Wilson of Wakeman.

Shannon Novin, 23, is the daughter of Raymond and Deborah Novin of Curtice. She attends the University of Toledo. Novin will play the xylophone. Her platform is “Just Because You Can’t See It Doesn’t Mean It Isn’t There.” Her lil sis will be Layla Jones-Williamson, daughter of Michael Williamson and Leann Jones of Norwalk.

Summer Soltis, 20, is the daughter of Richard and Cyndi Soltis of Cleveland. She attends Spring Hill College. Soltis will perform a cheer routine. Her platform is “New to Me - Free Fashions for Underprivileged Girls.” Her lil sis will be Anessa Ruggles, daughter of Mark and Betsy Ruggles of Norwalk.

Courtney Storey, 18, is the daughter of Duane and Dr. Margaret Storey of North Canton. She attends Jackson High School. Storey will dance. Her platform is “Freedom Isn’t Free: Helping Our Vets through the Wounded Warrior Project.” Her lil sisses will be Rivers and Kendall Yoder, daughters of Andy Yoder and Tonya Boyer of Norwalk.

Olivia Anderson, 15, is the daughter of Kurt and Rachel Anderson of Brunswick. She is home schooled. Anderson will play the harp. Her platform is “Fill a Pantry, Feed a Belly.” Her lil sis will be Arabella Garcia, daughter of Jessica Leos and Brian Garcia of Norwalk.

Marina Denunzio, 13, is the daughter of Robert and Mary Denunzio of Shaker Heights. She attends Shaker Heights Middle School. Denunzio will perform an Irish dance. Her platform is “Childhood Literacy.” Her lil sis will be Korynne Watson, daughter of Kyle Watson and Amy Striker of Norwalk.

Hanah Reiff, 16, is the daughter of Toby and Angela Reiff of Marion. She attends River Valley High School. Reiff will sing. Her platform is “Cyclic Neutropenia.” Her lil sis will be Olivia Skelton, daughter of Marcus and Molly Skelton of Norwalk.

Sydney Shasky, 16, is the daughter of Steve and Heather Shasky of Mansfield. She attends Madison Comprehensive High School. Miss Shasky will perform a lyrical dance. Her platform is “No Tolerance for Bullying.” Her lil sis will be Jossalyn McCoy, daughter of Shad and Faith McCoy of Norwalk.
