Agency offers text alerts to local producers

• Jan 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM

Huron/Erie County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced that farmers in Ohio now can receive notifications from their county office through text messages on their cell phone.

Whether producers are in the field, or on a tractor, this service enables FSA customers and stakeholders to receive notifications while on the go. Producers will receive text messages regarding important program deadlines, reporting requirements and program updates.

Subscribers Can Receive Important Program Reminders and UpdatesTo enroll, producers must text a keyword consisting of the two letter state abbreviation and the county name from which they want to receive alerts to FSANOW or the numeric keys (372669) on your cell phone. For example, producers wishing to receive alerts from Huron County FSA would text the keyword OH HURON to 372669. Producers interested in enrolling in a different county would need to text OH and the county name to 372669 to begin to receive alerts from their FSA County office.

Producers will receive a system generated reply if they have successfully enrolled. Standard text messaging rates apply. Contact your wireless carrier for details associated with your particular data plan. Participants may unsubscribe at any time.

Please contact the FSA office if you have questions regarding FSA’s email news service or the new text message option.

Perdue announces FSA state committee appointees: U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced a slate of Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Committee Appointees.

State committees are selected by the secretary, serve at the pleasure of the secretary and are responsible for carrying out FSA’s farm programs within delegated authorities.

“The State Committees will help to ensure USDA is providing our farmers, ranchers, foresters, and agricultural producers with the best customer service,” Perdue said. “They serve as a liaison between USDA and the producers in each state across the nation by keeping them informed and hearing their appeals and complaints. The committees are made up mostly of active farmers and ranchers, representing their peers and ensuring USDA’s programs are supporting the American harvest.”

Here are the appointees for Ohio:

• Committee chair Trish Levering – Knox County

• Ronnie Clifton – Pickaway County

• Kim Davis – Carroll County

• Daryl Knipp – Sandusky County

• Joe Steiner – Warren County

Service center undergoes remodeling project: The Norwalk USDA Service Center located at 8 Fair Rd, Norwalk Ohio, is currently undergoing a remodeling project that will take approximately six to eight weeks to complete.

The project entails re-vamping the restrooms, new carpet and paint throughout the building. We hope to keep the inconveniences for our producers to a minimum, but there will be times that it will be noisy and distracting in the building. The building contractor informed FSA that our phone service and internet connections may also be unavailable at different intervals during the remodeling project. We apologize if you experience any problems contacting us and we ask that you follow-up with us if you do encounter this. We ask for your patience and understanding during this project.
